In 12 matches played thus far, Stubbs has amassed an impressive total of 318 runs at an average of 53, boasting a remarkable strike-rate of 188.17. His innings have been pivotal for DC’s success, including two half-centuries with an unbeaten 71 as his highest IPL score.

In the recent encounter against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Stubbs once again showcased his batting prowess. He blazed his way to a quickfire 41 off just 20 deliveries, featuring 3 fours and an equal number of sixes. His aggressive innings during the slog overs propelled DC to a formidable total of 221/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In a post-match revelation, the 23-year-old sensation unveiled the secret behind his power-hitting, attributing it to his background in hockey. Stubbs explained how playing hockey in his formative years had a significant influence on his batting technique. He emphasized the similarity in the hand movements required for wielding a hockey stick and executing powerful shots in cricket.

“I think initially you get the basics from hockey and I practiced them a lot because you know you got to do it, it just takes bravery for it to connect and play through. The way I turn the hands for the spin and seam is like I’m holding a hockey stick, so it must come from there. Both sweeps actually, getting down low I definitely think comes from hockey,” said Stubbs in a video shared by the IPL.

Following their 20-run victory over RR, DC have climbed to the fifth position on the points table, securing six wins from 12 matches and accumulating 12 points. Led by skipper Rishabh Pant, the Capitals are well-positioned to clinch a spot in the playoffs and will be determined to secure victories in their remaining fixtures against RCB and LSG.
