Holger Rune can’t wait to make his debut at the Australian Open 2024 and at the press conference he appeared quite excited, revealing his goals for the Melbourne Slam and the season. The Dane underlined with his very decisive manner the need to bring about the generational change that he has been waiting for for years, bypassing Novak Djokovic.

“This is our goal, we have to break it down. We didn’t succeed last year, although Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and I beat him on at least one occasion. Apart from Carlitos in the Wimbledon final, we have not been able to overcome him in the important matches. The aim is for the younger players to consolidate their position at the top this year. But we have to see how he is this year and then do everything we can to beat him,” he said.

The player followed by the German legend Boris Becker continued on the topic by explaining what it takes to overcome Nole. “It’s hard to have a recipe to beat him. You have to believe in the abilities you have. You can come up with the right tactical plan and you can work mentally to put yourself in a better position, but it’s more about chasing it and believing in it,” explained the young 20-year-old.

The Dane concluded by highlighting the stability of his team and the need to avoid further changes: “Having a stable team will be the most important thing for me. This way I can concentrate better on the field. This way the best results can be achieved. If you constantly have problems in your life, it’s also difficult to perform at the highest level.”

The Dane will start the Australian Open against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, on Tuesday. Rune arrives at the first Major of the season after reaching the final in the ATP 250 in Brisbane, losing against Grigor Dimitrov.
