Hiromu Takahashi Wins IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship

on

Hiromu Takahashi defeated Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom to recapture the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Takahashi took the win after using a new variation of his ‘TIME BOMB’ finisher. Ospreay had spent the entirety of the match working on Takahashi’s previously injured neck, hitting a hellacious Hidden Blade to the back of Hiromu’s neck.

The bout garnered a huge response from the crowd inside the Tokyo Dome, with Takahashi arguably getting the loudest reaction of the night for the win.

Takahashi will now go into Night 2 of Wrestle Kingdom to team with Ryu Lee to take on Naoki Sano and Jyushin ‘Thunder’ Liger. This will be Liger’s official retirement match, after he lost in the tag bout earlier on Wrestle Kingdom Night 1 to Ryusuke Taguchi. The match now has an extra special meaning, as Liger was the first man to ever defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at the Tokyo Dome. Liger will now be heading into his last ever bout against the present and future of the division.
