The rules of golf are relatively complex compared to other sports because they are applied outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respect for the rules is fundamental in the game of golf, which, relying almost always on self-control and the players’ conscience, often sees results distorted, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or due to carelessness, because many players do not observe the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an indispensable component of this sport.
