2024 NFL Draft: 49ers Listening to Trade Offers, Vikings–Giants Proposals for No. 3 Pick | SI.com

The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants did make offers to the New England Patriots for the No. 3 pick to take Drake Maye. Earlier this week, Minnesota offered the Nos. 11 and 23 picks, and its 2025 first-rounder, with pick swaps favoring the Vikings as part of the proposal; and that offer ticked up with New England on the clock. The Giants, meanwhile, did wind up putting their 2025 first-round pick in their offer to move from No. 6 to No. 3.

Biggest question: How will Nabers handle New York? There were some around the league that questioned whether Nabers was a good fit in the Big Apple. But his character wasn’t something teams considered a major concern, despite an arrest on a gun charge that was eventually dropped at LSU. Nabers is especially close with his wide receivers coach at LSU, Cortez Hankton, who reassured teams the WR wouldn’t be a problem. Nabers, multiple sources said, is someone willing to put his head down and work and who cares about winning.

“It was very likely,” Nabers said of the potential of landing with the Giants. “I knew Dabs, he conversed with a lot of my coaches, he really liked my game, he liked my dog mentality. So, I’m glad he chose me. (We had) great meetings. He has a great personality; he makes people laugh that are in the room. He’s going to compete with you for sure, he has high standards for his athletes. So, I am hoping he has high standards for me, and I live up to those.”

From 2022-23, Nabers recorded 1,442 receiving yards from the slot and 1,130 receiving yards from out wide while no other FBS wide receiver earned more than 800 receiving yards from both alignments.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper: Giants’ pick was surprise of the NFL Draft, not Michael Penix Jr. | NJ.com

“They sat at No. 6 and there’s J.J. McCarthy,” said Kiper. “They didn’t take McCarthy. They took the receiver, Malik Nabers to help Daniel Jones, who [GM Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll] inherited. Most times GM and head coaches want their own guy, and Daniel Jones was coming off injuries and he had some struggles because the offensive line was bad and they didn’t have explosive receivers. So I think the Giants may have surprised a lot of people. I’m happy to do what they did, because I like Daniel Jones. So for all the Daniel Jones haters, the heir apparent wasn’t taken at No. 6.”

Boomer: Could a bad Giants season be Brian Daboll’s last? | WFAN.com

The Giants did not take their quarterback of the future in Thursday’s draft, meaning Brian Daboll will likely go through a third season as head coach without any sign of a future QB to develop as his own. Boomer wonders if that could lead to Daboll’s exit should Big Blue have another rough season in 2024.

“I don’t want to say it, because I like him,” Boomer said. “But they have to win. The Giants have passed on yet another quarterback opportunity…if it goes south again this year, and Mr. Personality himself, Mr. Bill Belichick is available, could you see him coaching Malik Nabers next year?”

The winners, losers — and the really big loser — of the 2024 NFL Draft | New York Post

Giants QB Daniel Jones: A big investment was made in scouting “the most talented group [of quarterbacks] to come out in years” – as Giants owner John Mara says he was told by the front office – turned up naught. No quarterback added at this point will threaten Jones’ job in 2024 and thus he has a chance to win back long-term security rather than being treated as a surefire 2025 cut.
