Other Giant observations

Would it be malpractice for Giants’ Joe Schoen to avoid QB in Rounds 1 and 2? – NJ.com

Nine days from now, we’ll know whether Giants general manager Joe Schoen will use a premium draft pick on a quarterback.

If he does, that guy would be on track to replace Daniel Jones sooner rather than later. Through five seasons, Jones has not only experienced durability issues, but also has failed to consistently perform like a franchise quarterback — even amid flashes of strong play.

New York Giants: Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito.

You probably wouldn’t peg Jones as one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL the past two seasons. His catchable-pass percentage should lend to success, right? Well, it did in 2022, leading to a Giants playoff berth. That seems so long ago, though, especially when you glance at Jones’ EPA numbers from last year before his knee injury.

Giants CB Nick McCloud signs tender | Pro Football Talk

McCloud was one of only seven restricted free agents in the league to receive a tender, which is worth a non-guaranteed $2.9 million for 2024. McCloud, 25, played all 17 games with three starts last season. He totaled 28 tackles, an interception and three pass breakups, while playing 312 defensive snaps and 347 on special teams.

Giants’ Michael Ghobrial ‘excited’ to adjust to kickoff rule change | USAToday.com

Ghobrial was very forthcoming in his take on the change.

“So it’s exciting to see. It’s exciting to game plan. It’s exciting to kind of find the little nuances when it comes to that specific rule change. But when it comes down to it, I’ve always felt that every special teams play requires a certain level of effort, a certain level of technique and a certain level of violence. So those will be the foundational pieces of that rule change. And then obviously figuring out what is our best foot forward in terms of attacking that. We’ll do that this spring.”

While Schoen has preached drafting players who fit various schemes, there’s no doubt it will be different this season. So what does a Shane Bowen defense look like?

“I hope they see us flying around, playing with speed, playing with great effort,” said Bowen, who served as the Titans’ DC from 2021 to 2023. “I think a physicality to our game, playing with violence. Attacking the line of scrimmage. Guys being fundamentally sound. Not beating ourselves. Making sure we are lined up, communicating, doing everything pre-snap we need to do to put ourselves in position to make plays.”

What Giants might do at defensive line in 2024 NFL Draft | New York Post

This could be a Day 2 or more likely a Day 3 target for the Giants, as there is a big hole on the roster now that A’Shawn Robinson is gone.

Another big body would be a welcome addition to the room. How about Kris Jenkins (Michigan), massive (366 pounds) T’Vondre Sweat (Texas), Michael Hall (Ohio State) or DeWayne Carter (Duke) as options?
