New England’s quarterback room trimmed from five to four on Monday.

Nathan Rourke will head from Foxborough to East Rutherford.

The New York Giants claimed the former CFL quarterback off waivers from the New England Patriots on Tuesday, as first reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

Rourke, 25, had been let go from an AFC East depth chart that moves forward with Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe as well as 2024 NFL draft arrivals Drake Maye and Joe Milton III. He now joins an NFC East room that includes Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito under contract.

The Patriots were awarded the 6-foot-1, 210-pound British Columbia native off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars last December. From there, Rourke served as both the No. 3 and No. 2 quarterback on gamedays. His exclusive rights were retained with a one-year deal ahead of free agency in March.

Rourke, who played at Fort Scott Community College and Ohio University en route to first-team All-MAC honors, landed in the second round of the 2020 CFL draft. He went on to spend a pair of seasons with the BC Lions, completing 307-of-406 passes for 4,103 yards with 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. An additional 415 yards and 12 touchdowns were accrued as a rusher.

Named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2022, Rourke entered the NFL ranks following a series of workouts. He made two stops apiece on Jacksonville’s practice squad and active roster last campaign before being claimed by New England.

The Patriots currently carry an opening on the 90-man roster as rookie minicamp awaits.
