Geoff Chizever: “Thiem will never make the top 10 again”

Without filters: the television commentator Geoff Chizever, during a conversation on the Tennis Channel-Inside In podcast, talked about Dominic Thiem, releasing very harsh statements about the Austrian tennis player.

He analyzed: “Dominic Thiem will never make it back to the top 10 of the ATP Rankings. He’s so brutal to watch. I’m sorry to be so negative towards Thiem, I think his moment of difficulty says a lot about how brutal tennis is. I think Thiem will never get back in the top 10 of the ATP rankings.

I saw him in Davis Cup and he was an indoor tennis player. He suffered some bad losses against Coric and Gojo. But when I watched him, I understood why he lost.

I like to place the blame on how incredibly difficult the sport of tennis is. It is just crazy. They always say it of the hardest workers in the sport: the fitness is there, the grit is there, but if you’re away for a while, you lose that kick in the wrist. Then all of a sudden, everyone below you gets better. The margins are so thin.”

The dark period of the Austrian

The Austrian has been going through a difficult period in his career for some time now. Since his historic triumph at the US Open two years ago, the former world number three has no longer been able to confirm himself at high levels, sinking into a tunnel made up only of injuries and disappointments.

Thiem’s 2023 started in the worst way. A defeat in the first round against Andrej Rublev (3-0) and the one against the Croatians Borna Gojo and Borna Coric meant the elimination in the Davis Cup qualifications, for his Austria.

Up to the last, in chronological order against Thiago Monteiro in Rio De Janeiro. “I’m calm, it will take time but I’ll be back,” the tennis player from Wiener Neustadt declared after yet another slipup.
