San Diego Chargers vs Denver Broncos

Former Denver Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler will announce the team’s third-round pick on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Denver Broncos will have a former second-round pick of their own announcing their pick on Day 2 with tight end Tony Scheffler taking the podium for that event.

Scheffler played four seasons in Denver where he accumulated 138 receptions for 1,896 yards and fourteen touchdowns. He was a key outlet receiver for Jay Cutler before Josh McDaniels came to town and got rid of everyone.

After Scheffler, there will also be a couple of fans who will also announce picks on Day 3. Below is some information the team released on each of the participants in this event.

Broncos fan and cancer survivor Derik Smith, representing the NFL and American Cancer Society’s Crucial Catch initiative, will announce a Broncos’ selection on the final day of the Draft from Detroit.

As a young athlete growing up in southeast Wyoming, Smith lost his lower right leg at age nine after a cancer diagnosis. Smith returned to the football field less than a year later and now uses a prosthetic leg to play football and compete in track and field for Hope College (Holland, Mich.). This fall, Smith appeared in two games as a senior defensive lineman for the Flying Dutchmen. Smith also competed for Team USA at the 2022 International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation World Games where he won his division in discus, long jump and the 100-meter run. Smith hopes to represent Team USA at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris, France.

Special Olympics Michigan Unified flag football athlete Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Viele will also announce another Broncos’ selection on Day 3 from Detroit.

Viele has been involved in Special Olympics since she was in middle school, playing a variety of sports including flag football. Viele, who credits the organization with helping her and her peers find acceptance, serves as an athlete leader for Special Olympics Michigan, as she co-leads Special Olympics Michigan’s Athlete Leadership Input Council, serves as an athlete representative on the Special Olympics Michigan Board of Directors and represents the organization at numerous public speaking opportunities.

It’s always awesome to see NFL teams do these small acts of kindness for their fans. I look forward to the raucous cheers from those in attendance on the final day of the draft.
