Fabio Fognini: “Novak Djokovic is the strongest, but the least loved of the Big 3”

The latest edition of the Australian Open saw Novak Djokovic triumph for the tenth time in Melbourne. The Serbian managed his left leg problem perfectly and defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final with a score of 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5).

In an interview conducted by the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Fabio Fognini focused precisely on the success achieved by the Serbian and on the Big 3.

The Italian said: “It’s hard to find a suitable adjective for him. Last year he didn’t play two Grand Slams and four Masters 1000, yet he still qualified for the ATP Finals. After everything that happened last year in Melbourne, Nole is back and making his mark. He, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal monopolized the ATP Tour and wrote the history of the sport. Nole is the strongest and the numbers prove it, but he’s also the least loved of the Big Three.”

Djokovic, thanks to the tenth title won at the Australian Open, has reached Nadal at 22 Grand Slams and once again gained the top of the world ranking against Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard missed the first Major of 2023 due to an injury to the semimembranosus muscle in his right leg. We recall Nole will be able to play the US Open 2023, while he will not be present at Indian Wells and Miami, the first two ATP Masters 1000 of the season.

Latests on Fabio Fognini

Fabio Fognini’s goal is to return to the court on South American soil to restart in the best possible way after a negative start to the season. The blue was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open by Thanasi Kokkinakis in three sets and was unable to express his real level due to a foot problem that conditioned his expedition.

Fognini has canceled himself from the ATP 250 tournament in Cordoba and will try to participate in the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires scheduled from 13 to 19 February.

“I’m sorry I can’t play the Cordoba tournament, but I will do everything to recover 100% and see my Argentinian fans in Buenos Aires,” the Italian wrote on his Instagram account.
