Ex-Federer’s coach warns Sinner: “The hip problem must not be underestimated”

There are injuries that are more difficult than others to overcome. Andy Murray and the serious hip injury comes to my mind, for example.

And about this kind of physical problem, Ivan Ljubicic talked about the hip injury that is affecting Jannik Sinner, during an interview for Sky Sport 24.

Roger Federer’s former coach warned the young Italian champion that he should not underestimate this type of injury. It should be remembered that Ljubicic’s interview was granted before Jannik decided to skip Rome.

“The change of surface from concrete to ground, where you slip, is a problem for those who have hip pain like Sinner, or the balls are heavier because they take moisture from the ground, putting more stress on the elbow and arm, as happened to Carlos Alcaraz .

Players move more and more and hit harder and at a certain point the body tells them enough is enough. Jannik’s problem is not serious, but important and not to be underestimated.

The Roland Garros is upon us, Wimbledon is around the corner and the Olympics immediately after. We saw how many withdrawals there were in Madrid, let’s say that the players at this stage of the season are more sensitive than usual and attentive to what their body tells them,” explained Ljubicic.

Jannik withdraws from the Italian Open

As I said above, Sinner will not participate in the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.

The hip problem, which developed in Monte Carlo and worsened in Madrid, is not to be underestimated and, at this moment of the season, Jannik has decided not to take unnecessary risks. For Italian fans, one of the worst possible news has arrived for the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome.

Sinner is not the only big name who will miss the Rome tournament, because in the last few hours Carlos Alcaraz also announced his withdrawal due to the worsening of the right forearm injury.

The young Italian thus decided to completely rely on the doctors’ opinion and listen to his body to try to recover 100% in view of Roland Garros.
