Italy (Natalia Aparicio, Francesca Fiorellini, Matilde Partele) ranked 10th with 568 (143 147 137 141, -8) shots in the 30th edition of the World Amateur Team Championships/Espirito Santo Trophy, i.e. the World Championship women’s team competition which was played on the Abu Dhabi Golf Club course (par 72), in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Asian teams on the stage with the title held by South Korea with 554 (140 137 138 139, -22) shots and with Taiwan in second place with 558 (-18). The Koreans (Kyorim Seo, Hyosong Lee, Minsol Kim), at the top after three rounds with Spain, kept the pace high with a partial of 139 (-5), second score of the day, and separated the Iberians, then third with 559 (-17), forced to leave the silver to the Taiwanese comeback from fourth place. For South Korea it is the fifth title in the history of the tournament.
In fourth place with 560 (-16) England and Thailand, in sixth with 561 (-15) Australia and the United States, who achieved the lowest score of the round with 136 (-8), recovering three positions, and in eighth the Canada with 564 (-12). Sweden, the reigning champion, disappointed, only 13th with 571 (-5). Italy had a fluctuating pace, going from 13th place in the opening round, to 22nd in the second and then starting the climb back to 14th in the third.
In the individual ranking, the Taiwanese Huai-Chien Hsu prevailed with 275 (72 68 66 69, -13), preceding the Spanish Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio (277, -11) and the Korean Kyorim Seo (278, -10). Eighth place was Francesca Fiorellini with 280 (73 75 65 67, -8), who changed pace significantly in the final two laps, after starting the race in 48th place. Further back Natalia Aparicio, 44th with 291 (70 72 72 77, +3), and Matilde Partele, 84th with 303 (75 82 72 74, +15).
The roll of honor speaks decidedly American. In fact, the USA boasts 14 successes and has reached the podium 21 times overall (four second and three third places). South Korea follows at a safe distance, as mentioned with five titles, therefore three for Sweden and Australia, two for France and Spain and one for South Africa. Italy obtained as its best results two second places with Giulia Sergas, Sophie Sandolo and Silvia Cavalleri, who was first in the individual (Philippines, 1996), and again with Sergas and Sandolo together with Federica Piovano (Chile, 1998).
The Italians were accompanied by Matteo Delpodio, Technical Director, Roberto Zappa, Technical Commissioner of the Women’s National Amateur Team (Team Advisor), Anna Roscio, Team Manager of the Women’s National Team (Captain), and the physiotherapist Giuseppe Plebani.
