Energetic Multi-Era Shooter ‘Histera’ Entering Early Access May 16

on

StickyLock has revealed that its high-octane, frenetic shooter, Histera, will enter early access on May 16. Histera, which features a unique ‘map glitching’ mechanic puts players in an ever-changing arena, throwing them between several eras ranging from prehistoric to the distant future. That means that weapons and tactics are always changing, the terrain is unpredictable, and no two matches of Histera will ever be the same.

It’s an unpredictable and energetic shooter that shows promise. During the most recent Steam Next Fest, Histera was playable and pulled in some positive reviews. StickyLock, a Dutch developer, acted on community-driven feedback to polish Histera a little more in preparation for the early access release, which lands on Steam on May 16.

In an all-new gameplay reveal trailer, StickyLock showcased the ever-changing foundation of Histera. Players are thrust into an arena that never stops evolving, with players at one moment exploring a prehistoric forest, and the next being thrown into a war-torn city during the Second World War. There are era-specific weapons tailored to each realm, but they can transcend ‘The Glitch’, which means you can stalk a futuristic battlefield with a prehistoric spear or bow.

Similarly, you can mess with time and take an incendiary shotgun thousands of years into the past. It’s a unique feature that’ll help set Histera apart from the likes of Call of Duty and Overwatch in the shooter space.

Here’s the new trailer:

When Histera’s early access window kicks off on May 16, players will be treated to a fair portion of the game. This includes three maps – but it’s really all one map. With the unique ‘Glitching’ mechanic in Histera, one map becomes several, and in early access, players will experience a taste of Montorro City, Pliocene Plateau, and Novgorod. Two gameplay modes will be available when early access goes live: Team Deathmatch and Territory Control.

Setting The Scene

StickyLock has confirmed that Histera will be a customisable shooter. It’s free to play, which means it will be supported by microtransactions. Outfits and skins will be available to purchase, but those taking part in the early access portion of the game will get exclusive skins for free. There will also be a battle pass mechanic introduced down the line to allow players to unlock more customisation options and cosmetics.

Histera’s potential as a competitive shooter isn’t confirmed just yet. At first blush, it’s an arcade-based shooter with fast-paced mechanics, but there’s no indication that the game will ever have a ranked mode or an esports ecosystem. It’s being marketed as a shooter for all proficiencies, and that type of label doesn’t typically lend itself to a solid skill gap, but we’ll have to wait and see. It has a similar-looking speed to The Finals, a sensational shooter that was suddenly released in December 2023.

Histera enters early access on Steam from May 16.
