New York Giants first-round pick Malik Nabers said that he and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels have called off their $10,000 wager on which of them would win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The bet, even though made between two friends, likely ran afoul of the league’s gambling policy, which states:

1. No betting on the NFL. ”All NFL Personnel are prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet, whether directly or through a third party, on any NFL game, practice or other event (e.g., Draft or Combine). This includes betting on game outcome, statistics, score, performance of any individual participant, ‘futures,’ or any other kind of ‘proposition bet’ in any way related to the NFL (regardless of whether such bet involves actual on-field play) (e.g., prop bets related to Gatorade color, pre- or post-game events, halftime show, off-field player conduct or outcomes, etc.)”

Daniels, a quarterback, was selected No. 2 by the Washington Commanders. Nabers, a wide receiver, was selected No. 6 by the Giants. They were teammates at LSU.

“I’m educated now that I got here about sports betting and gambling. We called the bet off,” Nabers told media on Friday after the first practice of rookie mini-camp. “It was just another brother pushing another brother to try to get to success. That’s all it was.”

Now, it’s nothing but a lesson learned about life in the NFL.
