New England selected Maye third overall Thursday night.

After being selected No. 3 overall by the New England Patriots Thursday night, Drake Maye woke up Friday morning in Detroit and swapped his Carolina blue suit for a new white fit. He, along with his three brothers and longtime girlfriend, then hopped on Robert Kraft’s private plane to head to his new home.

After receiving a FaceTime from his new center, David Andrews, on the flight, the plane then traveled over Gillette Stadium where the record-setting outdoor video board welcomed him before landing in Norwood.

“Mr. Kraft’s plane was awesome. That was a sweet once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Maye said Friday afternoon on the field. “We came in right over the stadium and saw the ‘Welcome to Gillette Stadium Drake Maye.’ It’s a once-in-a-lifetime deal. It’s hard to beat this day. Last night was awesome but this day is almost trumping it.”

After arriving to the facility, Maye was welcomed by head coach Jerod Mayo and director of scouting Eliot Wolf. A trip through the locker room then led him to meeting Josh Uche, as well as seeing his new stall which featured his new No. 10 Patriots jersey.

Maye’s stadium tour then included seeing three of his offensive coaches in Alex Van Pelt, T.C. McCartney and Ben McAdoo before being led out onto the field by the Krafts.

“Just trying to show them my personality and be myself,” Maye said. “I got to meet Mr. Kraft up there and his son. From here, just soaking it all in. It’s my first time in here. Even on the lighthouse — sweet deal they do up there. I’m scared of heights but it was still pretty cool.”

Atop the 22-story lighthouse, Maye looked over the field he will soon be playing on — one that also has six Super Bowl banners hanging from above. The scene allowed him to visualize what could be in his future as the Patriots’ potential franchise quarterback.

“I think visualization is huge,” Maye said. “I think being in here, being in the stadium, I think it’s one of those things you’ll never forget the first time walking in. Meeting Mr. Kraft, the first thing I said, ‘Thanks for trusting me, believing in me. I’ll hopefully not going to make you regret it.’

“That’s my goal — to come in here, work hard and win a lot of football games.”
