After a ten year absence, the DP World Tour of golf makes its return to Bahrain. From 1 to 4 February, the Royal Golf Club will host the Bahrain Championship, a tournament in which eight Italian players will participate. In addition to Guido Migliozzi and Edoardo Molinari, we will also see Matteo Manassero, Francesco Laporta, Filippo Celli, Lorenzo Scalise, Andrea Pavan and Renato Paratore (who will make his debut in 2024) on the pitch.

The only notable absence among the Azzurri with a full “card” on the main continental circuit will be Francesco Molinari.
The event will award a total prize pool of $2,500,000, of which $425,000 will go to the winner. This figure is significantly lower than the first Arab Super League event of the season, the LIV Mayakoba in Mexico (scheduled for February 2-4), which will offer the winner of the individual race an incredible prize of 4,000,000 dollars and will mark the debut of the Spaniard Jon Rahm.
After his second place in the United Arab Emirates at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, won by compatriot Thorbjorn Olesen, Dane Rasmus Hojgaard will be considered one of the favorites in Bahrain. Other title contenders include Germans Maximilian Kieffer and Yannik Paul, Japanese Keita Nakajima and Spaniards Rafa Cabrera Bello, Pablo Larrazabal, Jorge Campillo, Adrian Otaegui and Adri Arnaus.
An interesting anecdote: in 2011, when the Royal Golf Club course hosted the Volvo Champions (conquered by the Englishman Paul Casey), Edoardo Molinari, the future vice-captain of the Europe team at the 2025 Ryder Cup in New York, ranked eighth place, overtaking Matteo Manassero, who finished thirteenth, and his brother Francesco, twentieth.
The Rules of Golf represent a set of standards and procedures that define the practice of the sport. These rules are jointly developed and maintained by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the organization that oversees golf worldwide (except in the United States and Mexico, which are under the jurisdiction of the United States Golf Association) .
An expert commission, made up of members of the R&A and the USGA, is responsible for overseeing and reviewing the rules every four years. The latest revision came into force on 1 January 2016. Changes to the rules of golf can generally be divided into two main categories: those aimed at improving understanding of the rules themselves and those which, in certain situations, seek to reduce penalties in order to ensure greater balance.
The official rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf,” is published regularly and also includes provisions relating to amateur status in golf. In Italy, it is the task of Federgolf to monitor compliance with the rules in competitions, ensuring that they are observed by clubs, associations and their members. Furthermore, Federgolf manages sporting justice resulting from violations of the rules and protects the interests of Italians competing abroad.
