According to Dave Meltzer, Dolph Ziggler still isn’t facing the Miz at SummerSlam. He is scheduled to face WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg, instead.
Last week, I had reported that Meltzer was sure that Dolph Ziggler and the Miz were not facing each other at SummerSlam, but then the WWE made it official a couple days later. It turns out that the WWE did this on purpose because they were upset of news leaking that Ziggler would actually be facing Bill Goldberg.
“Some people must have written somewhere that I said that Bill Goldberg would be wrestling Dolph Ziggler. And I said “I never reported that.” – Dave Meltzer
Someone had actually said it in a reply to one of Dave Melter’s tweets. What’s interesting is the someone in the WWE also thought he had confirmed it, and called him to clarify.
“Someone in the WWE who was talking to me about “how did you know it was Bill Goldberg?” And I said, “I didn’t know it was Bill Goldberg.” They didn’t realize that I had said I didn’t know. All these people said I said it was Bill Goldberg when I didn’t say it in the first. So… it is in fact Bill Goldberg and that’s how I figured it out.” – Dave Meltzer
In the past three weeks, Dolph Ziggler has cut a promo that has mentioned Bill Goldberg in every one of them. To throw everyone off, they officially confirmed that Dolph Ziggler and the Miz would be facing each other at SummerSlam so that everyone will be surprised when Goldberg is announced in Miz’s place.
WWE SummerSlam takes place August 11th on the WWE Network.
