Davydenko said Sinner is not yet at the same level as Djokovic

on

Thanks to the fantastic performances shown in the second part of 2023, Jannik Sinner has received a lot of praise, even from former stars who have left an important mark in the history of tennis. One of these is Nikolaj Davydenko, winner of 21 career titles, including 3 ATP Masters 1000 and the ATP Finals. The Russian was amazed by Sinner’s growth, but according to him, to reach Novak Djokovic’s level, he needs to add something more to his tennis. “I saw live how Sinner plays and trains, he is a really hard worker. He’s also trying to change his game. He slides, moves well, is physically strong and stable. He is fantastic in this and I think that if he continues like this he will certainly improve his results. He often pushes himself to the limit, but he’s still missing something, and it’s difficult to last an entire season relying only on willpower. He can have a great tournament, a great big match, but to last the whole season like Djokovic he must be able to do something else. Maybe it’s also psychology,” he explained.

Jannik Sinner’s season

Jannik Sinner experienced an extraordinary second part of 2023. The Italian tennis player won the first ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto, triumphed in Beijing and Vienna and was an absolute protagonist at the ATP Finals and in the Davis Cup. In Turin he stopped one step away from his dream, losing in the final against Novak Djokovic. In Malaga he triumphed with Italy against Australia, obtaining the second title in the history of his country.  Now, Jannik will try to confirm all the good things showed at the end of 2023 on the upcoming tennis season. Jannik will be one of the most awaited tennis player, starting from the Australian Swing. The first part of the season will have its climax, of course, at the Australian Open 2024.
