Dallas adds it’s second external free agent of the offseason.

The Dallas Cowboys have added their second external free agent in 2024. After adding veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks last month, the Cowboys make an addition to the running back room by signing Royce Freeman to a one-year deal per ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Freeman was a third-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2018. In three years in the Mile High City, Freeman logged eight starts and ran for 1,187 yards and eight touchdowns. He spent two years with the Houston Texans afterward but ran for just 209 yards on 75 total carries. After one season with the Carolina Panthers, where he registered a pedestrian 77 rushing yards, he played for the Los Angeles Rams last season. There he had 319 yards with two touchdowns.

This is a cheap move to acquire some depth, which isn’t foreign to any team, especially the Cowboys. This won’t alter the plans to snag a running in next week’s NFL draft, it’s just some added insurance.
