Dane Brugler is extremely high on Dallas’ new edge rusher.

Most popular outlets say the Dallas Cowboys had a very impressive 2024 NFL Draft. Despite having just eight selections, outside of running back, which they just addressed in free agency, Dallas filled all the major holes on their roster.

One of Dallas’ more surprising selections was using their second-round pick at 56 on a Western Michigan edge rusher, Marshawn Kneeland. The 22-year-old edge rusher was not someone that many believed the Cowboys had on their radar, especially in the second round.

Even though the pick was a bit of a surprise, the reaction from the outside was very positive. Kneeland drew many comparisons to current Cowboys’ defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and was pegged as the veteran’s eventual replacement on the roster if Lawrence walks in free agency after this year.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic, who knows as much as anyone about the draft, was extremely high on Kneeland. Brugler had him ranked as his 32nd-best player overall and as the firth-best edge rusher in the draft, ahead of Missouri’s Darius Robinson who was selected in the first round by the Arizona Cardinals.

Brugler’s praise for Kneeland did not stop there. In an article published on Monday, he named Kneeland his favorite pick from the Cowboys draft.

Here’s what Brugler had to say about why he thinks so highly of the selection.

I’m surprised the Cowboys didn’t draft a running back, but I really like most of the eight selections they did make. With picks 29, 56 and 73, respectively, Dallas drafted my No. 27 (Tyler Guyton), No. 32 (Kneeland) and No. 38 (Cooper Beebe) overall prospects. Kneeland is an impressive athlete at 270 pounds and rushes with balance and heavy hands. Pass rusher was an underrated need for the Cowboys entering the draft, and they landed an ascending player with his best football ahead of him.

It’s safe to say the rookie edge rusher is entering the league with plenty of positive buzz sounding him.
