Indianapolis got a ‘steal’ with their second-round wide receiver selection, according to PFF.

The Indianapolis Colts were one of several teams who got a ‘steal’ in the second round of the NFL Draft, according to Pro Football Focus. In the Colts’ case, they selected Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell No.52 overall.

For many pre-draft, Mitchell was considered a late first-round pick before falling all the way to No. 52 in the second round. It’s easy to see why experts thought so highly of the talented Texas wideout, as Mitchell, standing 6-2, 205 pounds, impressed many by running a 4.34 40-yard dash time during February’s NFL Combine.

Mitchell, who transferred from Georgia to Texas after two seasons with the Bulldogs, had a breakout campaign in 2023 for the Longhorns, hauling in 55 receptions for 845 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

It’s hard to argue against the level of talent Mitchell possesses, especially after a career-year at Texas last season. For a Colts’ offense that was looking to get more explosive, the addition of Mitchell could provide exactly what they’re looking for in the long run.

Mitchell joins a talented Colts’ receiver room that’s led by veterans Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce to go along with second-year receiver Josh Downs. As more of a polished route-runner, Mitchell’s ability to win underneath combined with his deep threat ability could be the key to unlocking more of a big-play offense in

As we approach rookie minicamp and even training camp, it’ll be interesting to see Mitchell’s role within the Colts’ offense in Year 1. The Colts are certainly hoping the early returns on the former Texas receiver are as promising as Mitchell’s lone, impressive season with the Longhorns in 2023.
