Chikurin Dominates in First Tekken 8 EVO Event

on

Tekken 8 at EVO Japan 2024 might not have lead sign-ups, but as one of the freshest games on the roster it had something special. This had to be one of our most hyped tournaments here and the Final Bracket did not disappoint. After watching this, it’s clear we’re into a fantastic first year for Tekken 8 competitive. Which players have stood out and led the pack so far though?

There have been some standouts already in competitive Tekken 8. Compared to what we’ve signed in games like SF 6 at EVO, it was a very different set-up here. Japanese players dominated the final bracket and ultimately it was Chikurin who won. How did he do it?

One fun aspect of the Tekken 8 at EVO Japan 2024 tournament was just how many of the Tekken characters were represented. In the top 64, only a handful of characters weren’t being played! Clearly, the game is still wide open for competitive play.

Chikurin is Our Tekken 8 EVO Japan 2024 Champion

The Tekken 8 tournament has been an interesting event, and loads of players performed admirably even before we reached the final. JeonDDing managed to clock up an impressive 7-8th, fresh-off signing to a new org. However, it was the final bracket that showed off who the strongest players in the game were.

In the opening of the Winner’s rounds, we had a few players pushing out ahead of the crowd. The first of these was LowHigh, who sailed through his semi against Infested. Then we had Sikurin vs Chanel. This was a considerably less close fight, with chikurin breezing to the next round 2-0. In our Winner’s final, he continued to demonstrate why he’s one of the top Tekken players, winning 3-1.

This all knocked LowHigh down to the Losers Final, but his run wasn’t over yet. Facing Chanel, LowHigh got well ahead winning 3-1. This meant LowHigh had another shot at winning the whole thing if he could turn things around against chikurin. Which, he couldn’t.

In the Grand Final Chikurin won 3-0, with a clear advantage. He’s not the only player in EVO apan to win in such a strong way for the Final. Looking ahead to the Tekken World Tour, this might make Chikurin our favorite for the year to come.
