Rashawn Slater allowed a career-low three sacks during the 2023 season and is just two years removed from being a Second-Team All-Pro.
As the NFL world turns their eyes to the final day of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chargers just announced the no-brainer decision to pick up the fifth-year option on left tackle Rashawn Slater. The news was reported by ESPN’s Field Yates.
Following his stellar rookie season in 2021, Slater was named a Second-Team All-Pro behind only Trent Williams of the 49ers. In year two, Slater unfortunately played just 2.5 games before going down with a torn biceps against the Jaguars in week three.
The Chargers have exercised the 2025 5th year option on LT/offensive weapon Rashawn Slater, per source.
He and Joe Alt will bookend the line for Justin Herbert going forward.

This past season, Slater returned to play a career-high 1,154 snaps but finished with a career-low season grade of 76.6. In comparison, his All-Pro season saw him earn an 83.6 overall grade. At the same time, Slater allowed just three sacks in 2023, one less than he did as a rookie. On the flip-side, he allowed 38 total pressures, 12 more than in 2021.
Despite the down year, Slater is still one of the best left tackles in the NFL and it was a beyond-obvious decision to keep him under wraps for as long as possible.
