Good morning, Chargers fans!

I used to give weekly or bi-weekly updates on CBS Sports’ quarterback power rankings earlier this season. Since parental leave, I haven’t given an update in some time so I thought I’d go revisit the rankings.

Some stuff has changed. Mainly, Justin Herbert is no longer in the top-10 after he spent most of the early season ingrained in the top five.

Now? He’s 12th in the NFL. Some names that have jumped him in recent weeks include Jordan Love, CJ Stroud, Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, and Matthew Stafford.

Here’s what analyst Cody Benjamin had to say about Herbert entering Week 14:

“The numbers are there, as usual: With 20 TDs and six picks, he’s been just fine, even solid, on paper. The win-loss column consistently tells a different story, however, and we’re still waiting on his tools to deliver a defining late-game triumph.”

Herbert still resides in the top 10 of both passing yards and touchdowns despite throwing just one touchdown across his last two games. In his past five, he has just seven touchdowns, four of which came in the same game against the the Lions in a shootout.

It’s been a very rough stretch for the offense, all of which has closely coincided with the loss of Corey Linsley and Josh Palmer. Herbert’s still been safe with the ball, but his unit’s efficiency is just not there. Add in a run game which might be the worst in the NFL and you’ve got one heck of a situation for Herbert to throw his way out of. Tough not to feel terrible for him knowing he’s going to continue to shoulder much of the blame from the media who refuse to do much in the way of looking at context surrounding his play.

And now for today’s links.
