This could be a fun story for Bears fans.

With the NFL draft over, the undrafted free agent signings are popping off as quickly as ever, and while nothing is official until it’s announced by the Chicago Bears, their rumored new UDFA quarterback has a fan in their rookie first-round drafted quarterback.

Caleb Williams excitedly reacted to a Tweet about Chicago signing Western Kentucky’s Austin Reed.

Woahhhhhh!!! Haha o yeaaa

Williams and Reed worked out together this offseason in Florida, and they shared a quarterback trainer, Will Hewlett, from the QB Collective.

Hewlett also trained San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, and Hewlett thinks that Reed has that kind of upside after they tweaked some of his mechanics.

Form Sports Illustrated’s Corror Orr:

“Spin rate is a really good indicator of proper mechanics,” says Reed’s trainer, Will Hewlett of QB Collective. “You want guys in the mid 600s, being able to spin it consistently.”

Before Reed started working with Hewlett, his spin rate was in the mid-500s, but now it’s in the mid-600s.

Hewlett trained 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. He says that Reed is this year’s version, meaning, a late-round quarterback who possesses high-end potential due to late-blossoming mechanics plus a vast amount of experience. Hewlett also trains the presumptive No. 1 overall pick, USC’s Caleb Williams.

Reed figures to be in the mix along with Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien for a couple of reserve roles behind Williams.
