The latest Bears Banter Podcast has dropped!

It’s draft week and we are going to get you set with one of the best in the business, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler!

Make sure you subscribe to The Athletic to gain access to Brugler’s comprehensive draft guide, The Beast. It’s the best guide in the business, and he has in-depth profiles on every prospect, including UDFAs!

Dane discussed several topics on the podcast, we discussed all the scenarios at 9 for the Chicago Bears, if they trade back, some wide receiver options in round two and we talked about some trench options at 75 and 122, but we, of course, discussed Caleb Williams.

I posed a question to Brugler: If Caleb Williams was eligible to come out of the draft prior to this season, would he have been the top pick in the draft in 2022, 2023 and 2024? Here is Brugler’s response:

“You think of the last two years, Travon Walker going number one overall, the Jaguars had just drafted Trevor Lawrence so they wouldn’t have drafted him but there’s a good chance we would have seen a trade there. I think that’s fair to say. Last year with Bryce Young and CJ Stroud at the top, as much as we liked those quarterbacks as prospects, so yes, I think it’s fair that you would have Caleb Williams number one in that group. So yeah, I don’t think that’s crazy at all.”

It’s a great interview as you would expect. If you want to watch the video segment with Dane, you can see that here:
