Diving into the players that are in town on a tryout basis for Cleveland

Rookie mini camp is finally here for the Cleveland Browns and in addition to the team’s draft picks and UDFA signings, they’ve brought in seven players to compete on a tryout basis this weekend.

Here is a little breakdown of each player and their collegiate achievements:

Rookies (6)

QB Jacob Sirmon – Northern Colorado

H/W: 6’5”, 230 pounds

2023 Stats: 1,255 passing yards, 56.4% comp., 5.3 avg., 8 TD, 9 INT

Sirmon has a big frame and a rocket arm that Cleveland found interesting, so they decided to bring him in to see if he has what it takes to be a legitimate “camp arm” or practice squad-type player.

S Chase Williams – San Jose State

H/W: 6’1”, 200 pounds

2023 Stats: 49 tackles, 2 pass deflections, 1 INT

Williams has a great pedigree, originally committing to USC as one of the top defensive backs in high school football. He eventually became a starter for the Trojans during the 2019 season, but eventually decided to transfer to SJSU where he became a household name in the secondary over the past two seasons.

WR Jourdan Townsend – Delaware

H/W: 5’11”, 185 pounds

2023 Stats: 49 recs., 661 receiving yards, 13.5 avg., 3 TD

Townsend was a two-year starter for the Blue Hens and became one of their top offensive weapons in 2022 and 2023. He’s also contributed as a punt returner since his true freshman season.

LB Landon Honeycutt – Mars Hill

H/W: 6’2”, 230 pounds

2023 Stats: 107 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble

Honeycutt was the “quarterback” of the Mars Hill defense and one of the most productive linebackers in D2 college football over the past two seasons. He was a classic “thumper” in the middle of the defense and showed a good amount of athleticism and flexibility.

WR Clevan Thomas Jr. – Montana State

H/W: 5’11”, 194 pounds

2023 Stats: 26 recs., 364 receiving yards, 14.0 avg., 4 TD

Thomas Jr. began his career at Kentucky before transferring to MSU in 2022. He was a threat anytime he had the ball in his hands as a Bobcat, despite Montana State’s offense being primarily run-oriented during his time there.

WR Tyrese Chambers – Maryland

H/W: 6’0”, 192 pounds

2023 Stats: 7 recs., 51 receiving yards, 7.3 avg., 1 TD

Chambers began his career at Sacred Heart before transferring to Florida International, where he became one of the top receivers at the “G5” level. He broke T.Y. Hilton’s receiving record at FIU before transferring again to Maryland before the 2023 season. He eventually left the Maryland football program after six games with the intent of transferring for a third time. Chambers ultimately decided to declare for the 2024 NFL draft before going undrafted in April.

Veterans (1)

S Brady Breeze – Oregon

H/W: 6’0”, 205 pounds

2023 Stats: N/A

Breeze has already been with four teams since being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s bounced around the practice squads of the Titans, Lions, Seahawks, and Texans over the past two and a half seasons. His true value lies in his ability to play special teams, where he was an All-Conference special teamer at the University of Oregon.
