Browns rookie minicamp opens today

The 2024 season is still about four months away but it is starting to feel more real. The NFL schedule will be released next week and today, the second Friday in May, the Cleveland Browns see their rookie minicamp open.

Earlier this morning we covered a report that the Browns had come to agreement with OL Zak Zinter from their 2024 NFL draft class. Of the six draft picks, Zinter was the first to reportedly agree to a contract. Just after the NFL draft, we shared reports of nine undrafted free agents signing with the team.

The team has now announced that they have signed five of their six draft picks:

  • OL Zak Zinter
  • WR Jamari Thrash
  • LB Nathaniel Watson
  • CB Myles Harden
  • DT Jowon Briggs

DT Michael Hall Jr. is the lone selection to not have signed. First and second-round picks tend to take a little longer despite limitations on what can be negotiated for rookie deals.

Cleveland also announced the signing of seven undrafted free agents while making the release of OL Dawson Deaton official:

  • OL Javion Cohen
  • S Christopher Edmonds
  • CB Dyshawn Gates
  • LB Winston Reid
  • RB Aidan Robbins
  • OL Lorenzo Thompson
  • TE Treyton Welch

All seven were on our initial report. WR Ahmarean Brown and OL Jalen Sundell are the two who were not announced as signing. Brown spoke to The OBR following the report of him signing as if the deal was complete:

“To learn from those [receivers] is special,” Brown told TheOBR. “Amari Cooper is obviously one of the best route runners who’s been in the league for quite a while and has been Mr. Consistent. Jerry Jeudy, we’ve seen even at Alabama the routes that he can run and the way he gets separation is amazing. Just to learn from those guys, man, I can’t wait.”

Interestingly, the report on the site was titled as “Browns sign 10 undrafted free agents” as seen below:

Perhaps there are three more UDFAs, including Brown and Sundell, that will be added in the near future.
