Broken Matt Hardy is TNA’s big mystery reveal after Nic Nemeth fails to win world title

on

All signs pointed to Nic Nemeth walking out of Rebellion (Apr. 20, 2024) with the TNA World Championship, however, it wasn’t meant to be for the Wanted Man. Moose took the best Nemeth had to offer and still conquered his foe. There was little time to celebrate though. Moose was swatted down by Matt Hardy as the surprise mystery Lights Out reveal.

TNA laid it on the thick for the illusion that Nemeth’s victory was a foregone conclusion. His family was seated in the front row to savor the potential moment of glory. Moose’s cohorts in the System were ejected early when Alisha Edwards grabbed Nemeth’s foot to prevent a superkick. The pieces were place for a title change, but Nemeth couldn’t get the job done.

Moose had a tremendous will to survive when in precarious positions. When Nemeth slapped on a sleeper, Moose rammed into the corner trying to break the hold. Nemeth kept his grip tight, so Moose climbed the turnbuckles to fall backward down to the mat. That impact was enough to force a release from the submission.

More highlights from the match include Nemeth leaping off the ramp for a Fameasser on the floor, Moose snatching Nemeth off the turnbuckles for a Sky High spinebuster, and brutal powerbombs from the champ.

Nemeth surged down the stretch with various superkicks and Fameassers. Moose kept kicking out of pinfalls. Nemeth tuned up the band for another superkick. That’s when Moose dodged and ran the ropes for a crushing spear to win. With the emotion of the story in Nemeth’s favor, this result came as an abrupt shocker.

Personally, I was a little confused by the execution of the pinfall. In an effort to secure leverage, Moose actually pulled Nemeth’s shoulder off the mat. Based on Nemeth’s lack of movement, this might be general sloppiness rather than story putting shade on the result. I feel the need to point it out just in case it was intentional to directly lead to a rematch.

TNA Rebellion on Triller TV

After the match, as seen in the clip at the top, the lights went out. The Lights Out vignette played on the big screen, and Matt Hardy was in the ring. Broken Matt deleted Moose with a Twist of Fate.

Hardy is a two-time TNA world champion in his own right. He last competed in the Impact Zone in 2017.
