BLAST Announces 5 Dota Tournaments

on

First came the ESL One Majors, then BetBoom Dacha, then PGL Wallachia and now, BLAST has announced 5 Dota tournaments due to take place from November 2024 – 2025.

The Dota 2 calendar is getting more and more packed. Gone of the days of a few league tournaments that lasted weeks and weeks. It seems like Valve’s promise of unique 3rd party tournaments is coming into fruition.

A Battle Awaits at BLAST

Few details have been announced regarding the structure and locations of BLAST’s tournaments, but we do have dates. The dates actually match up pretty well with PGL’s announcements so perhaps we haven’t yet reached the point where teams will need to be selective about which events they attend. The organizers seem to be taking alternate months so there’s going to be a far more consistent structure to the year than we’ve seen previously.

According to a statement by Andrew Haworth, VP of Ecosystems, Valve & Riot Games, BLAST has had their eye on Dota 2 for some time:

“We are delighted to be entering Dota 2 and have plans for BLAST to bring a new level of production and excitement that Dota fans haven’t seen before.  It’s a game we love as fans and players, we’ve been following closely as an interested tournament organizer for the last few years.

As we’ve grown as a business and expand into further titles, Dota has always been on our wish list. With the recent changes to the Dota ecosystem we feel it’s the perfect opportunity for BLAST to come in, provide the community with the next level of tournaments and become the new home of Dota 2.”

There have been discussions in the last few years that Dota seemed to be tailing off. The stale metas and repetitive DPC tournaments just weren’t panning out. But Valve has made massive changes, updating the gameplay in patch 7.33, removing the DPC and allowing more freedom for organizers to provide more varied tournaments.

It’s something the community should really be welcoming. If Dota wants to continue as one of the most successful MOBAs of all time, the updates are sorely needed.

BLAST Continues to Expand Event Roster

After taking on Counter-Strike, Rocket League, Rainbow Six, Fortnite and now Dota, BLAST have certainly got their hands full.

All of these events will be launched on BLAST.tv, their customizable platform for viewing. This doesn’t necessarily mean that tournaments won’t be available on all of the usual suspects including Twitch and YouTube. But the BLAST.tv product is set to provide a DotaBuff level of data. This will include player stats, team standings, news, mini games and more. So if you’re a Dota data nerd like me, it’s worth signing up.
