Bjorn Borg urges tennis media: Promote Carlos Alcaraz, other young talents

Tennis legend Bjorn Borg says tennis media needs to prioritize promoting Carlos Alcaraz and other young talented players as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic won’t be here forever.

Djokovic is set to turn 36 in May, while Nadal will be turning 37 in June.

Last September, Roger Federer retired from pro tennis.

Borg, a former 11-time Grand Slam champion, thinks the men’s game isn’t lacking young talent.

But the key for tennis is now to promote those young guys so there is an interest in tennis when the Big Three are all gone.

Borg: Promote Alcaraz and other young talents

“Alcaraz, he won the US Open, but I think he has to prove that he is that good. He can play really good tennis, and I like a lot of what he is producing in tennis. Then you have Tsitsipas and Zverev, who injured his foot in the French Open. But you have so many good players coming up. I have to talk about Americans too, Tiafoe and Fritz, I have to mention them too, but I am talking about Europe because I am European too. I think there are a lot of young players coming up to take on Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, or whatever. You see new names, but it is important for the media to promote these new players coming up, because you can’t think about Djokovic or Nadal, this is too much for tennis and other players to take over, and the media should promote tennis and these players, it is very important,” Borg said on Jimmy Connors’ podcast, per Sportskeeda

The men’s game definitely has several very promising players and Alcaraz is the one who is standing out.

Last year, 19-year-old Alcaraz won the US Open and also became the youngest-ever No 1 in tennis history.

Also at the end of the 2022 season, Alcaraz became the youngest-ever Year-End No 1 in tennis history.
