Bianca Andreescu ‘determined’ to play and beat Iga Swiatek at Australian Open

Former world No 4 Bianca Andreescu was extremely satisfied with the way she was able to get the job done against 25h-seeded Marie Bouzkova in her Australian Open first-round match as she is now looking forward to a potential meeting against Iga Swiatek.

Andreescu, now ranked at No 43 in the world, kicked off her Australian Open run with a strong 6-2 6-4 win over Bouzkova.

Andreescu came out firing, breaking Bouzkova twice in the first set to easily win the opener.

In the second set, no breaks were seen until the 10th game – when Andreescu broke Bouzkova in the key moments to complete a two-set win.

“I think I played very solid today. Marie did pose a challenge, but I’m just very grateful with how I dealt with that challenge. I was very focused from A to Z, and that’s how I want to play every match basically, so hopefully I can keep the momentum. I was very motivated considering my last match. I definitely didn’t want to give her any room to kind of come back,” Andreescu said, per Sportskeeda.

Andreescu wants to play Swiatek

Swiatek, seeded at No 1, defeated Jule Niemeier to set up a second-round meeting against Camila Osorio.

Meanwhile, Andreescu will be taking on Cristina Bucsa in the second round.

Should Andreescu and Swiatek win their second-round matches, they would meet in the third round.

Andreescu, who is hoping to return to the top-10 this year, admits she will be extremely motivated and determined to beat Swiatek if they meet.

“I think I did see something on Twitter, though. Possible matchup between me and her. That will be fun, if I get there. I’ve worked really, really hard, and I know what I’m capable of. So looking at Iga, someone like her, it’s very motivating and inspiring because, I mean, it’s something hard to do in tennis to be consistent like that. So I definitely condone her. It definitely motivates me, and like I said, I know I can be back in that position like I was in 2019 and hopefully even better,” Andreescu said.
