Bayley retains the women’s championship in France

A friend and a foe in a triple threat weren’t enough to take it from her.

Bayley won the women’s championship at WrestleMania 40, defeating former friend and stablemate Iyo Sky. Instead of going straight to a rematch between the two, Damage CTRL moved on to feuding with the likes of Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair while Bayley decided to give her friend, Naomi, a title shot. Tiffany Stratton got herself involved to throw her name in the hat.

Ultimately, they were both given a shot at Bayley and her championship at today’s (Sat., May 4, 2024) Backlash premium live event at the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France.

In the end, neither could take care of business.

This was a triple threat, meaning it was one hell of a mess of a match at various points, but they kept it entertaining with some fun spots, like Stratton hitting an Alabama Slam on both women on the two different announcer’s desks only to get hit with a 1D back inside the ring.

That gave Bayley and Naomi the chance to duke it out themselves, and the result of that was Bayley reversing momentum on a pinning combination and keeping Naomi down for the count of three to retain her women’s championship.

After, Naomi hugged her friend and raised her arm in the ring, the competition remaining friendly.
