Backlash match card and rumors

on

Here’s what WWE has planned for the next PPV on the schedule, Backlash, on May 4, 2024.

The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Backlash show set to take place on Sat., May 4, 2024, at the LDLC Arena in Décines-Charpieu in Lyon Metropolis, France. The “WrestleMania Backlash” branding is gone, in its place a focus on the international nature of the event.

We’re just under one week out from showtime and the card looks nearly full:

  • WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles

Styles won a triple threat match to advance to a number one contender bout opposite LA Knight, which he also won, getting his win back from WrestleMania. They did a contract signing in which they played this like two guys who respect each other just trying to win the title.

  • World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Jey Uso

A Fatal 4-Way is how they found the top contender for Priest after he finally cashed in at WrestleMania. Jey won that match.

  • Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton

Naomi got a title shot given to her by the new champ but Stratton interfered. She was hoping that would mean she would get a shot but they booked a top contender match with Naomi instead. When Nia Jax interfered in that, Nick Aldis simply booked a triple threat. I’m not sure how that makes much sense, but there ya go.

  • Women’s Tag Team Championship: The Kabuki Warriors (c) vs. Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill

The babyface team defeated Damage CTRL in a six-woman tag at WrestleMania and are now trying to take the titles off them.

  • The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga) vs. Randy Orton & Kevin Owens

Owens ran afoul of Sikoa backstage and paid for it in blood. He continued going against them and got an assist from new pal Orton just this past week on SmackDown. That led to this match booking.

It’s likely they add at least one more match before showtime.
