Australian Open: Gauff and Sabalenka to the 3rd round! Andreeva annihilated Jabeur

The difference between Aryna Sabalenka and the very young raising stars of the WTA Tour Brenda Fruhrvirtova (born in 2007) was evident in their 2nd round match. After a difficult start and an initial part of the first set with too many errors, the Belarusian literally swept away her young opponent, qualifying for the 3rd round of the Australian Open 2024.

The young Czech tried to react, but she could do nothing against the defending champion, who beat her opponent in an hour and 8 minutes 6-3 6-2. For Sabalenka there will now be Lesia Tsurenko.

In the US derby, Coco Gauff beat her countrywoman Caroline Dolehide in straight sets, suffering in the first set, won by the young American star in a tie-break. The winner of the US Open 2023 then dominated the second set, qualifying for the third round of the tournament, where another US player, Alycia Park, will be waiting for her.

Victory and smile for Paula Badosa, who easily overtook Anstasia Pavliuchenkova. The Spaniard seems to be recovering her best condition and she can represent an outsider in the Australian Major.

Caroline Garcia, who eliminated Naomi Osaka two days ago, was sensationally defeated by the Polish Frech. In the first set the Frenchwoman started well immediately, she went ahead by a break but conceded four consecutive games, losing 6-4. Same story also in the second set, where Garcia was too discontinuous, twice leading by a break but coming back immediately, with her opponent triumphing in the tie-break of the second set.

Andreeva swept Jabeur away

Sixteen-year-old Mirra Andreeva annihilated World No.6 Ons Jabeur 6-0 6-2. Although she is not her favorite surface, Ons never enters the match and the very young and talented Russian once again highlights the room for growth.

Match without history and challenge concluded in 56 minutes of play. Surprise defeat instead for former WTA No.1 Caroline Wozniacki. Since her return, the Dane appeared to be making a clear recovery and was instead defeated in three sets against the Russian Timofeeva, WTA number 170.

First set clearly won by Caroline who gives in at a distance, in the second she also goes ahead by a break but after that she seems to suffer from tiredness against a younger opponent, the Russian takes advantage of this and obtains a beautiful and interesting victory.
