Auburn University men’s tennis team prepares to take on Wisconsin (Friday) and Notre Dame (Sunday). These two games will mark the Tigers’ first dual road matches of the season. Friday’s match against Wisconsin at Nielsen Tennis Stadium will begin at 5 p.m.: 30. CT while Sunday’s game in South Bend, Indiana, against Notre Dame will be played at 11 a.m. CT.

Auburn will be well rested entering the weekend, as the team has played no games this week. The Tigers’ last game was a 4-0 win over Louisiana on Jan. 29 during ITA’s Kickoff Weekend in Athens, Georgia. Sophomore Billy Blaydes was one of the Tigers’ standout performers over the weekend, picking up a singles win during the match against Texas A&M and a doubles win alongside Will Nolan to earn the doubles point over Louisiana.

Wisconsin has had a rocky start, losing each of its six games this season. Auburn faced Wisconsin at home last season at the Yarbrough Tennis Center and won the match 6-1. The Tigers have never lost a game in the all-time series, leading 5-0.

The Fighting Irish will play a road game against Michigan on Friday before hosting Auburn on Sunday morning. Currently, Notre Dame holds a 3-2 record, including a win over Wisconsin. The team dropped both games during ITA kickoff weekend to No. 11 Kentucky and Nebraska. Sebastian Dominko has started four matches at No. 1 singles for Notre Dame and holds a perfect 3-0 record.

Auburn coach Bobby Reynolds explained: “Wisconsin will be ready for us to play on their home turf. They do a great job of drawing a big crowd. I expect there will be a lot of loud fans in the stands, which is fun to play both in home than away, so guys have to be ready for that environment. It’s going to be a pretty long travel day on Saturday heading to Notre Dame, which could probably have one of the best No. 1s in the country.

Also, the courts will be a little faster , so we have to make sure we practice and adapt to that. We have to understand how these fast courts can help us or defend us in certain positions.”
