The saying that any press is good press seems to still hold true.

Tony Khan, president and owner of All Elite Wrestling, continues his media appearances after his recent criticisms of WWE during the NFL Draft. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Khan was questioned by Dean Muhtadi, formerly known as Mojo Rawley in WWE, about the reaction to his controversial remarks about WWE on the NFL Network.

“Well, I think that we got tons of coverage for AEW. And I think it is important to say I think AEW is the best wrestling company in the world in many ways,” said Khan.

Last week, Khan was attacked by Jack Perry, The Young Bucks, and Kazuchika Okada on AEW Dynamite, resulting in him wearing a neck brace during the NFL Draft. As the Chief Football Strategy Officer for his father’s Jacksonville Jaguars, Khan appeared on the NFL Network on day two of the Draft.

But instead of using the opportunity to promote AEW and its wrestlers, Khan took a shot at WWE, saying, “We’re up against a really evil juggernaut. WWE is our competitor. That’s who we’re facing. AEW, like the Pepsi of pro wrestling. WWE is like the Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling… I’m really proud of what we do down here…”

Khan was immediately interrupted by the NFL’s commentary team, and the interview wrapped up shortly. Still, his comments attracted attention, with many fans and pundits deriding them. NFL analyst Mike Florio wrote in response:

AEW needs whatever buzz Khan can create, even if the means are questionable. The ratings are down for AEW. Khan is trying to give them a boost; he added during the appearance on NFL Network that more information on his prognosis will be available on the next AEW show.

Of course it will. It’s a storyline. That’s how pro wrestling works. And Khan is trying to salvage AEW before it’s too late — even if it means making a Harvey Weinstein reference.

Speaking of Khan’s physical prognosis, AEW’s head honcho remains in good spirits despite the harsh attack by his EVPs.

“I feel blessed to be here and blessed the Jaguars had a great NFL Draft and blessed there’s so many great things happening in AEW right now,” said Khan.
