Another week closer to Double or Nothing, and a few more matches were added to the PPV card. In particular, AEW set world title bouts for the men and the women.

Double or Nothing takes place on May 26, 2024 from Las Vegas, NV. Four contests are official so far.

  • AEW World Championship: Swerve Strickland (c) vs. Christian Cage
  • AEW Women’s World Championship: Toni Storm (c) vs. Serena Deeb
  • TBS Championship: Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Mercedes Moné
  • AEW International Championship: Roderick Strong (c) vs. Will Ospreay

Swerve Strickland’s opponent for the AEW World Championship came about after bad-mouthing the EVPs. The Young Bucks used their power to arrange a challenger who is capable of teaching Swerve a lesson in respect. That sounds like a job for a father figure. Lo and behold, Christian Cage was the patriarch for the job. Christian ignited the heat with a cheap-shot beatdown and salacious insults.

Serena Deeb defeated Mariah May when Toni Storm threw in the towel to save her understudy. Naturally, that cleared the path for the Professor to challenge Timeless for the AEW women’s world title.

Let’s look at possible directions for the rest of the card. The big question will be what happens with the Elite. The Young Bucks hold tag team gold and Kazuchika Okada is the continental champion, however, it is looking to make more sense for an eight-man bout with Jack Perry rather than individual matchups. The honor of AEW may be at stake after they attacked Tony Khan and Kenny Omega. Arranging a multi-man match would be a convenient way to protect Omega if need be. FTR fits as partners for Team AEW. That leaves one or two spots open depending on Omega’s status. Last year’s event had Anarchy in the Arena. That style would fit here.

Adam Copeland is on course to pound through the House of Black. Buddy Matthews had his shot at TNT gold, and Brody King is next. That presumably leaves Malakai Black for the PPV.

A rematch between Chris Jericho and Hook for the FTW Championship is just a matter of time. The question is if it will be at Double or Nothing.

Trios challengers for the Bang Bang Gang are anyone’s guess.

Orange Cassidy meets Trent Beretta for an ass-kicking in the ring on Dynamite. That match will be contested under normal rules. This story is PPV-worthy, so expect a stipulation to kick it up a notch.

Other high-profile names in need of action include Jon Moxley with the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from NJPW, Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, Samoa Joe, Mark Briscoe, Eddie Kingston, Hangman Page, The Acclaimed, Katsuyori Shibata, PAC, Rush, Wardlow, and more. Last year’s Double or Nothing had a Blackjack Battle Royal, so several of these wrestlers could be in that match.
