Absence of Pau Gasol at his brother farewell

on

On Wednesday, Marc Gasol officially announced his retirement as a basketball player in an emotional event that took place at the Espai Texas in Barcelona, a former cinema in the Gràcia neighborhood that has been transformed into a multicultural center. In this special moment, Marc was surrounded by his family, including his wife Cristina Blesa, his parents Agustí and Marisa, and his brother Adrià. However, the most notable absence was that of his brother Pau, with whom he has shared countless moments throughout his successful basketball career and with whom he maintains a close relationship.

Unlike Pau’s farewell in October 2021 at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, which Marc attended, the older brother was not present at this event that marked Marc’s retirement as a player. The reason for his absence is due to sports, but not basketball. Pau is participating in the AT&T Pebble Beach Golf Pro-Am in Monterrey, California, a tournament that marks the beginning of the PGA circuit and in which golf professionals are paired with amateur players. In this tournament, Pau teams up with Argentine professional Emiliano Grillo. The tournament offers a prize pool of 20 million dollars and features the participation of other celebrities such as American football players Tom Brady (now retired), Larry Fitzgerald and Aaron Rodgers, as well as the former Secretary of State of the United States, Condoleezza Rice.

Pau Gasol developed his interest in golf during the pandemic and it has become his main hobby in recent years. He has considerably improved his level and has reached a handicap of -10. In the days before the tournament, he prepared with his training partner, the American professional Collin Morikawa, who is a great fan of the NBA and a follower of the Lakers, where Pau Gasol had a successful stint. Morikawa, despite his height of just over 1.70 meters, shared a nice photo on Twitter with Pau as they prepared for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am that started today.

It should be noted that Pau Gasol already participated in the previous edition of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am a year ago, partnering with American professional Mark Hubbard and achieving an outstanding ninth position among 156 pairs.
