Alex Perez snapped a career-worst skid in spectacular fashion.
The one-time flyweight challenger got back in the win column in Saturday’s UFC Vegas 91 main event, blasting Matheus Nicolau with a blistering punch in Round 2 to score highlight-reel knockout.
It was a much-needed win for Perez, who was coming off of consecutive losses to Muhammad Mokaev, Alexandre Pantoja, and Deiveson Figueiredo. Though Perez can take solace in that he was only losing to the best in the division, a fourth-straight setback could have led to his exit from the UFC.
He won’t have to worry about that after finishing Nicolau, who has now been finished by strikes in his past two contests. The Brazilian standout returned to the octagon for the first time in over a year and now finds himself on a losing streak for the first time in his 14-year career.
