The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, to be held jointly by the West Indies and USA. While some familiar faces remain, the selection committee has opted for a revamped squad, with seven players from the 2022 edition missing out this time around.
Veterans Depart
1.) KL Rahul: Despite being a mainstay in the Indian batting line-up, KL Rahul’s struggle with strike rate in the recent T20 matches seem to have cost him a spot.
2.) Dinesh Karthik: The experienced wicket-keeper batter, who failed to perform in the 2022 World Cup, hasn’t played a T20I since then.
3.) Ravichandran Ashwin: With the return of fit spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, the selectors opted for a more wrist-spin heavy attack, leaving Ashwin out of the squad.
4.) Mohammed Shami: Currently recovering from a heel surgery, Shami is expected to be out of action until August, ruling him out of the World Cup contention.
5.) Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Despite his experience and swing bowling prowess, Bhuvi’s recent form might have seen him miss out on selection for this edition.

Other Notable Omissions
6.) Deepak Hooda: The explosive middle-order batter hasn’t been included in the T20I setup for over a year, impacting his chances of making the World Cup squad.
7.) Harshal Patel: The skilful death bowler, who played a crucial role in his IPL team’s win, hasn’t been able to replicate his success consistently at the international level.
