The Jets have a new left tackle!

The New York Jets traded the 10th overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft, along with pick No. 203, to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for picks No. 11, No. 129 and No. 157.

The Jets then used pick # 11 overall to select Penn State left tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu, a talented blind side pass protector who may need some work in the run game.

The Jets needed an offensive tackle badly, as they currently have Tyron Smith manning the left tackle spot. Smith is great, but the last time he missed less than three games in a season was all the way back in 2015. In addition, over the last four years Smith has missed more games than he has played. With it being all but inevitable that a competent replacement for Smith will be needed for multiple games to protect Aaron Rodgers in 2024, the selection of a left tackle makes plenty of sense to me. To sweeten the pot the Jets also picked up a couple of mid round picks to move down just one spot in the draft.
