  • SCY (25 yards)
  • “2022 NE BGSC SCY New England Senior Meet” on MeetMobile
  • Providence, RI

Jacqueline Zipagan of Bluefish Swim Club led off the 400 freestyle relay in a 50.06. That broke Jenny Thompson‘s New England Swimming LSC record of 50.10 which stood from all the way back 1987.

That was a personal best time for Zipagan and also faster than she swam to finish second in the individual event as she swam a 50.54 then. Her previous best stood at a 51.18 from February 2022.

That was one of three LSC records that still stood in Thompson’s name so now only two remain. Thompson still holds the 13-14 50 free (22.83) and 15-16 50 free (22.66).

Thompson went on to win eight Olympic gold medals, all of which came from being a member of the US relays. Notably, she was a member of all of the US Olympic 400 freestyle relays from 1992-2004. She won a total of 12 Olympic medals. Thompson is also a former World Record holder in the LCM 50 and 100 freestyles.

Zipagan won the 200 free at the meet in a personal best time of 1:48.69. That was a best time by over five seconds as her previous best stood at a 1:53.75. Bluefish’s 400 free relay went on to finish second with a final time of 3:26.82.
