XDefiant Preparing For Launch Date Reveal Amid Final ‘Tuning’ at Ubisoft

on

Mark Rubin, the executive producer of XDefiant at Ubisoft, has taken to social media to offer another update on the game. Following a recent playtest, it has been revealed that the final ‘tuning’ efforts are being applied behind closed doors, after which, the full release date for the game will be revealed. The most recent playtest was a substantial success, with some top-tier creators giving the game another go and formulating positive feedback for Ubisoft.

XDefiant should have been released last year, at the end of the summer season. It has been pushed back a few times owing to development woes, and there have been some claims circulating that the team working on the game has been plagued by mismanagement-based struggles. It has been a long road for XDefiant, that’s for sure – the game has bounced from pillar to post as Ubisoft has tried to make it ready for release, but it might be just weeks away from launching.

‘Pretty Straightforward Stuff’

In the most recent update published on Twitter, Mark Rubin said:

‘Let me give the key takeaway(s) from this last post. The Server Test Session went really well from a scale and server standpoint. We have some tuning to do. Pretty straight forward stuff that will be done very soon if not done already. And lastly release date coming very soon!’

There was a lot of feedback from the recent ‘Server Test Session’. The three biggest contributors to the negative feedback were:

  • Delta-01 errors: issue causing extra latency
  • Health bar accuracy: health bars updating late, making it seem as though shots aren’t registering
  • Matchmaking algorithms: people getting higher ping than they should be

Rubin confirmed that Ubisoft either is going to or already has addressed these concerns. There are hopes that XDefiant will be released before Call of Duty 2024 gains any traction – which should be when it’s released in June. There’s a hole in the shooter market right now that XDefiant could reliably fill, but it’ll take a huge hit when Black Ops Gulf War is released later this year, assumedly in November. Ubisoft needs to lay a base before that happens or face ruin.
