WWE releases reportedly complete, were more ‘respectful’ than past cuts

Last night (April 19), we learned that WWE had released five wrestlers from their contracts:

• Jinder Mahal
• Xia Li
• Xyon Quinn
• Veer Mahaan
• Sanga

According to PWInsider’s sources that’s the extent of the list for this unexpected round of cuts, as the site’s Mike Johnson reports that no other names are expected to be released “at this time.”

Per Johnson, talent at WWE say the company’s calls to the people who lost their jobs yesterday were “very different” from how previous Talent Relations regimes informed those effected by past rounds of releases. Specifically, conversations with this group were “far less curt and more apologetic and respectful towards the talents”.

Friday’s cuts were WWE’s first to their main roster since shortly after the company’s sale to Endeavor was finalized last September. It’s not clear if Insider’s sources are comparing yesterday’s calls to that round, or some more infamous examples of how WWE’s treated people they just fired in the past.

While some are certainly worse than others, there’s really no good way to tell someone they just lost their job. But if Mahal, Li, Quinn, Mahan & Sanga did feel respected when they got the bad news, well, that’s something at least.
