WWE Possibly Shutting Down NXT UK Soon?

on

According to Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, WWE is considering closing down NXT UK soon.

NXT UK was created in 2018 in an attempt by WWE to start a farming system all over the world. The UK division was only supposed to be the beginning. Plans for an NXT Japan was scrapped during the coronavirus pandemic as people haven’t been able to fly in and out of the country and live events were put on hold.

The primary reason WWE is looking to shut down the brand is because of the Speaking Out movement, according to Colohue. Several wrestlers throughout the British scene were outted for sexual or physical abuse recently. WWE’s stance on the situation has gotten more serious as NXT UK’s Travis Banks and El Ligero released by the company after allegations against them were made.

This doesn’t mean that all the talent from NXT UK will be released. Instead, many of them will be moved to the main NXT brand. This will allow WWE to “pad” the roster as people are taking time off and names are being moved to Raw and Smackdown. Supposedly, Vince McMahon has said to be upset with the idea of keeping all of them on payroll without the brand putting out any new shows.
