If Rams RB Kyren Williams missed extended time, what available running backs are there?

If the L.A. Rams were to be without Kyren Williams for an extended period of time, buckle up because there are not many good options available right now. Luckily, Williams’ is only expected to miss OTAs because of his foot injury and Sean McVay says he will be ready for training camp. However, these things change often and especially for Kyren.

If the Rams needed a running back, it is most likely they’ll be scouring the waiver wire after final cuts and attempting to make a trade because when you see the available free agents you’ll know why they’re still available.

Cam Akers

There’s no chance that Sean McVay would welcome a reunion with Akers after the team traded him to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 of last season. Akers had 38 carries for 138 yards with Minnesota and despite not turning 25 until next month, there’s a chance he won’t play in the NFL again.

Damien Harris

A third round pick out of Alabama in 2019, Harris rushed for 929 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2021. But he’s struggled since then and only had 23 carries for 94 yards with the Bills last season.

Matt Breida

He was practically Kyle Shanahan’s top back from 2017 to 2019, but he’s no Christian McCaffrey. In the past four seasons, Breida has rushed for 750 yards on 194 carries and played for the Dolphins, Bills, and Giants.

Kareem Hunt

It’s hard to believe there was a time not long ago when people thought Kareem Hunt could leave the Browns to become an NFL star for another team. If not for Nick Chubb’s devastating injury last season that forced Cleveland to bring him back, Hunt may have no had any opportunities. He rushed for 411 yards on 135 carries (3.0 yards per attempt) but scored nine touchdowns. You’re thinking of the Kareem Hunt who led the NFL in rushing yards as a rookie in 2017. That was seven years ago. Yet I guarantee you people will still say that Kareem Hunt is a good running back who could start in the NFL.

Latavius Murray

The veteran is now 34 but had more success last season than most on this list. He rushed for 300 yards with the Bills, scoring four touchdowns and averaging 3.8 yards per carry.

Jerick McKinnon

He has won the last two Super Bowls as a member of the Chiefs, but McKinnon only had 46 touches last season. He has only fumbled once in the past four seasons.

Marlon Mack

Now this is a callback. Marlon Mack rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2019 with the Colts, but missed virtually all of 2020. He hasn’t really mounted a comeback since but has continued to hang around as an option.
