Hey, comp picks are back in town!

The 2024 NFL Draft has come and gone, but maybe you’ve already got your eye on next year’s draft in Green Bay. Just how will the Seahawks use their 32nd overall pick, you ask? Well we don’t know that yet, but we do (mostly) know how many picks Seattle is projected to have next April.

Seahawks’ current 2025 draft pick haul

Round 1: 1 pick

Round 2: 1 pick

Round 3: 1 pick

Round 4: Projected 2 picks

Round 5: Projected 1 pick

Round 6: 1 pick

Round 7: 1 pick

Total: 8 picks (2 projected)

Why are there projected picks for Rounds 4 and 5?

It’s been a long time been a long time been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time since the Seahawks had any extra picks through the compensatory formula. You have to go back to 2020 for the last time the Seahawks had comp picks through losing more qualifying free agents than they brought in.

Now that the May 1 deadline has passed and no unrestricted free agent is subject to the comp pick formula, we can reasonably conclude that the Seahawks are set for a pair of comp picks next year.

Damien Lewis’ big contract from the Carolina Panthers is expected to net Seattle a fourth-round pick, while Jordyn Brooks’ deal with the Miami Dolphins should land Seattle a fifth-rounder, per OverTheCap.

Shouldn’t the Seahawks have two projected picks for Round 5?

They should, but they gave up a fifth-rounder to the Giants in the Leonard Williams trade. The departure of Brooks will at least re-establish Seattle’s involvement in the fifth.

When will these comp picks be awarded?

Typically they are announced in March, one month before the draft. So no, Seattle can’t trade picks it doesn’t officially have yet.
