When Does SF 6 Akuma Release?

A new Street Fighter 6 character is arriving at last! In just a short while, we’ll get our first look at SF 6 Akuma. A new version of the classic character. He’ll be arriving as the next DLC addition for the character, but when will we learn more and when will we get hands-on with the latest version of the fighter?

Akuma has been announced as our next character for the game. He won’t be arriving straight away though. While we’re getting regular releases, the Street Fighter 6 patch notes don’t often contain a brand-new character. If you can’t wait to test them out and see where they sit in the balance of power in the game, this is everything you need to know.

Akuma Arriving Soon in SF 6

This week, Capcom has had a big drop of news for Street Fighter 6. We’ve got our first look at the next character, just as the Pro Tour heats up with SF 6 at EVO Japan. The new SF 6 Akuma gameplay trailer has quite a bit to show. It gives us a clear view of how the character has changed. Akuma’s Raging Demon is particularly interesting here, re-imagined for the new game’s style.

It’s an interesting trailer which definitely gets our anticipation up, but when can we expect SF 6 Akuma to arrive?

Street Fighter 6 Akuma Release Date

Before we get to the fun part of actually trying out the character seeing where they sit in the SF 6 tier list, we’ll have to wait for the release date. When exactly does he arrive? The update is currently scheduled for May 22nd. He’ll arrive to every platform on this date.

Players won’t get the character automatically. You’ll need to unlock them by purchasing them as DLC or the wider season pass. This is the same as past DLC additions, like Street Fighter Juri’s release.

Who is Akuma?

That’s what we know about the Street Fighter 6 version of the character, but who is Akuma in the wider franchise? The character is one of Street Fighter’s most iconic. They’ve appeared in tons of titles over the years. Starting with Street Fighter II Turbo, one of the best fighting games of all time.

Akuma is often a boss or villain in the series, being essentially a demon. That gives the character’s moves a unique twist though. Over the years, Akuma has grown through his various appearances. By the looks of this recent trailer, we can expect one of the most exciting and innovative versions of the character with Street Fighter 6 Akuma.
