What clubs did Austin Eckroat carry in his bag for his Cognizant Classic win?

on

An unusual Monday finish to the Cognizant Classic last week couldn’t throw off Austin Eckroat, who claimed the biggest win of his career to date.

He took a lead into the conclusion and was happy with how he played in the pressure situation, well served by a good bag.

“I’m really happy with how I played ‘The Bear Trap’ – you know, it’s not a fun finish whenever you have to hold onto a lead. And then the adversity of sleeping mid-round – I’m just really happy with how I handled it.

“I kept telling myself ‘I’ve put myself in this position for a reason, it’s what I want to do’ and I was happy I was able to perform in the situation.”

Eckroat is a PING G430 man when it comes to the big woods, opting for the LST for his driver and the Max 3-wood set at 14.75 degrees of loft.

He has favoured the brand new Ping Blueprint S 3-iron as his primary rescue club.

The rest of his irons range is from the Ping Blueprint T.

As he uses the Ping Redwood D66 he will get a gold edition of the club for his own collection and a copy will go into the companies famous vault.

The big payday will be a great prize but he will treasure a win on the PGA Tour as the achievement of a lifetime.

“This has always been my dream, to win on the PGA Tour,” Eckroat told the Golf Channel. “And just to win, I haven’t won since 2019 — it was a college event. It’s just been so long. I’m just so happy.”

After finishing at 14 under on Sunday, Erik van Rooyen of South Africa had been leading the group in the clubhouse. He finished with a final round low of 63 and shared second place with Min Woo Lee of Australia (last round 67).

A group of five players, including rookie Jake Knapp (66), who won his first professional tournament in the Mexico Open at Vidanta last week, tied for fourth place at 13 under. KH Lee (66), Cameron Young (66), Shane Lowry (71), England’s David Skinns (71), and Ireland’s Shane Lowry (71), were also at 13 under.

In his past four outings, Knapp has now finished in the top five three times. Knapp told Golf Channel, “I was happy with how I managed everything this week.”
